A First in Taiwan's Network Communications Industry: WNC Obtains ISO 59004 Certification for Circular Economy Management

Hsinchu, September 23, 2026 — WNC has achieved ISO 59004 Circular Economy Management System certification with the highest rating, becoming the first network communications company in Taiwan to earn the certification. ISO 59004 is a key international guidance standard for promotion of circular economy initiatives. WNC is extending the concept of circular economy from single products to procurement, design, manufacturing processes, resource management, and waste management, reducing the input of primary resources and the generation of waste. WNC’s Chief Sustainability Officer Molly Lin said, “Obtaining ISO 59004 certification is a significant milestone in WNC’s circular economy journey. We have integrated circular economy principles throughout our product design and manufacturing processes, and in our resource management practices. By viewing resources through the lens of the product life cycle, we are enhancing resource efficiency and minimizing environmental impact. Amid growing challenges such as resource constraints, climate change, and industry transformation, the circular economy has become essential for driving sustainable growth and building long-term competitive advantage."

Published in 2024, ISO 59004 focuses on six principles: systems thinking, value creation, value sharing, resource stewardship, resource traceability, and ecosystem resilience. WNC integrates this framework into its business operations, rethinking resource use and value creation from the perspective of the product lifecycle. Through low-carbon innovation, materials management, process optimization, and waste management, WNC extends resource value, reduces environmental impact, and uses platforms to grasp information such as data sources, composition, flow, and final disposal, thereby enhancing the transparency and traceability of resource management.

WNC has long been committed to waste reduction, and all of its major global production sites have obtained UL 2799 Platinum certification, improving waste conversion rates. In terms of product design, most commercially available antenna products adopt traditional PCB manufacturing processes. WNC has worked with suppliers to develop low-carbon laminated antennas by introducing copper foil auxiliary materials. The technology can be stably applied to basic antenna design, and patent applications have been completed and mass production is being pursued. This design reduces chemical pollution and process water and electricity consumption at the source, and increases the recycling value of materials. Compared with traditional processes, it can significantly reduce environmental impact by 80%. In addition, WNC has developed an antistatic pulp tray that uses 100% renewable bamboo as a raw material. By utilizing the natural conductive properties of bamboo charcoal, it achieves excellent antistatic function without the use of plastics. The feasibility of the technology has been fully proven. It will further enhance the sophistication and commercial competitiveness of packaging materials and provide customers with more comprehensive sustainable packaging solutions.

In the future, WNC will continue to use ISO 59004 as an important framework for circular economy management, practice resource reduction and value creation, and work with global suppliers and partners to expand benefits.
