Hsinchu, Taiwan, October 22, 2024 — The Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility Award held by CommonWealth Magazine has entered its 18th year, and is one of the most influential and prestigious sustainability awards in Taiwan. In the 2024 winners list for the aforementioned award, Wistron NeWeb Corporation (WNC) was ranked 21st among over 200 companies in the Large Enterprises – Manufacturing Sector category, and it has also garnered the CommonWealth Talent Sustainability Award. These awards show that WNC’s efforts in sustainability transformation and incorporation of ESG concepts into business operations have been recognized.

On the corporate governance front, WNC has enhanced its internal management mechanisms and diversified the composition of Board of Directors (BOD). Currently, there are three female directors on our BOD, which accounts for 33% of the total number of directors and exceeds regulatory requirements. In addition, WNC commissions an independent agency to conduct a performance evaluation on the BOD every three years and carries out internal evaluation on the performance of the BOD, board members and all function committees every year.

With regard to corporate commitments, WNC is devoted to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace that employees can feel safe in. A variety of online training resources and culture courses in different languages are provided to employees, and the company also offers international cuisine catering and club activities for foreign employees. We also adopt flexible working hours and provide employees with more annual leave, childcare leave, pregnancy checkup leave, and pregnancy checkup accompaniment leave than required by the law. Furthermore, employees can raise issues and submit suggestions through multiple two-way communication channels, making employees feel valued and fostering the company’s overall growth.

For social participation, WNC organizes social welfare projects and activities to care for children, the land, smallholder farmers and culture and the arts. Customers, social enterprises, NPOs, universities, and government agencies are invited to take part in these projects. We have used our resources and core competencies to facilitate science education, help bridge the digital divide, address the lack of educational resources in remote areas, support smallholder farmers, and address social issues caused by environmental changes.

In terms of environmental protection and sustainability, WNC has joined international initiatives such as SBTi, RE100, CDP, TCFD and TNFD Forum, and has set the following goals according to SBTi methodologies: reduce Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 42% (base year: 2022) and Scope 3 emissions by 25% (base year: 2023) by 2030. WNC is also committed to achieving 50% renewable energy usage across all sites by 2030 and 100% usage by 2040. By increasing the use of renewable energy and reducing GHG emissions, WNC aims to achieve net-zero by 2050. WNC is also proud to announce that it has surpassed regulatory requirements by completing Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions inventory at all sites this year and obtaining third-party verification for said inventory. We also issued our second TCFD Report in 2024, and the report has passed third-party evaluation and obtained a Pioneer level rating in SGS Taiwan’s TCFD Performance Assessment.

Moving forward, WNC will continue to enhance communication and cooperation with stakeholders and work with value chain partners to create positive, long-term connections and interactions between the environment and humankind.

About the Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility Award
In 2024, CommonWealth Magazine invited Taiwanese companies who were profitable for at least two years between 2021 and 2023 to participate in the Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility Award. By referencing indicators and assessment methodologies used in relevant global awards, this award assesses companies based on their performance in four aspects: corporate governance, corporate commitment, social engagement, and environmental sustainability to identify the companies with the best sustainability performance in Taiwan. In previous years, the award provided an overall top 50 list of companies across different sectors, but this year companies in the manufacturing, service, and financing sectors are ranked separately to better account for the unique characteristics of each sector.
